Take the Round Robin

Take a cruise down the river to Dartmouth, a Steam Train to Paignton and an open top bus back to Totnes or any combination of trips that takes your fancy.

Take a trip on the South Devon Railway

The South Devon Railway, or SDR, is a seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. They run steam trains and you can visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies either side of your trip with them.

The Dartington Estate and Dartington Hall - 2 miles from The Great Grubb

Dating from the 14th Century, Dartington Hall, with its listed buildings and glorious gardens, is a wonderful place in which to simply explore, take in one of the many theatre and music performances, watch a film in the intimate ‘Barn Cinema’ or sample the excellent food on offer at The White Heart.

Beaches

There are numerous beautiful beaches in South Devon and more than ninety are within a 45 minute drive of The Great Grubb (traffic permitting!). Many visitors come to walk the South West Coastal Path that stretches around the whole of the South West peninsula. Some of our favourite beaches include:

Mothecombe - 30 mins drive
Slapton sands - 30 mins drive
Bantham - 30 mins drive
Bigbury - 30 mins drive (Burgh Island is accessible at low tide and the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s famous novels)

There are many National Trust properties, beaches and woodlands close to us. Agatha Christie’s Greenway being one of the most popular for visitors.

Dartmouth - 12 miles from The Great Grubb

An historical naval town with a large yachting community and bustling town centre with many pubs and restaurants. Make sure you explore Dartmouth castle, dramatically situated on the cliff edge.

Plymouth - 30 mins drive from The Great Grubb

If you need a city fix, Plymouth is an historical naval port and the point of departure for the Pilgrim Fathers. Plymouth contains many shops, bars and restaurants. Make sure you explore the Barbican and Plymouth Hoe; both are jewels of the city.
